was established as a Non-Profit Rural Fire Zone in 1965. The Cottonwood Fire of 1964 brought home to the local residents of the Cottonwood Park area of Laramie Peak just how much they needed to protect their own. Holding fundraisers, obtaining a Clark-McNary Grant, and working with Wyoming State Forestry, they were able to procure some fire trucks. LP-1, pictured above, was the first truck they acquired. The tank was built from the boiler salvaged from the Old Hospital of Wheatland, WY. This truck has been placed in semi-retirement status as of 2022, is still usable, but requires a little more TLC. Funds earned from the 2020 Memorial Weekend Poker Run were used to acquire a newer LP-1, which is another magnificent story of it's own.
